Why We Need To Take Risks

Posted by guestauthor  Published in Philosophy

It does not matter if you are a Doctor, a Lawyer or an infantry soldier in the Army if you want to be the best and get ahead, you will need to take risks.

A doctor may have to take risks when working with a patient. The Doctor may have to experiment with different forms of medications or new surgical procedures when all else has failed in an attempt to help the patient.

A lawyer may have to argue a case in an unorthodox manner to win the case, but if the lawyer wants to become the top lawyer and make millions of dollars fighting high profile cases lots of risks have to be taken.

A soldier may have to take a risk and run thru gunfire to save another injured soldier, to complete their mission, or just to secure an area from being overrun by enemy troops, after going days with little to no sleep, but if a soldier wants to get promotions and eventually lead men into battle they also need to take risks.

These risks are not unlike someone looking to get rich in a casino, they have to be willing to risk everything they have to get that million dollar payoff. If you play it safe in a casino you may get lucky and win a big jackpot on the slot machines, but if you want to make millions you are going to have to play games such as Poker, Blackjack, Roulette and Craps . These are the games that with some skill, some luck and a lot of risk taking you can retire off your winnings.

The same can be said about life in general. No one gets ahead in life from playing it safe. You will not meet your special someone if you are too afraid to risk getting rejected by someone, you will never get that big promotion unless you take risks at your job.

It is very important to continue to take risks in life. To stop taking risks means to stand still in life. Standing still in life is one of the main causes of depression. These are usually the people afraid to confront the boss and tell him that they demand a raise; they are the ones that allow life to pass them by out of fear. The entire purpose of fear is to stop you from taking a risk.

Fear is nothing more then the unknown. If you have always wanted to quit your job and open a shop but you are too afraid to do it, this is because you are afraid of failing and risking what you already have.

It is important to learn to take risks in life if you want to be happy, you may not always get the things you risked for, but you will know that you tried, and in the end it does not matter in my opinion if you succeed or not it is how many risks you try to make that is the real test of how successful you are.

Just remember if no one took risks we would be a world without flight and probably no automotive vehicles at all, maybe we would have no electricity. So risk truly is needed to improve the world.

Science For World Peace As Religion

Join the Peace movement: click Peace

“He abused me, he struck me, he overpowered me, he robbed me.” Those who harbor such thoughts do not still their hatred.
“He abused me, he struck me, he overpowered me, he robbed me.” Those who do not harbor such thoughts still their hatred.
Hatred is never appeased by hatred in this world. By non-hatred alone is hatred appeased. This is a law eternal.
———Dhammapada, 1: 3-5

The greatest topic before humanity is the issue of global Peace.

Ages after ages , men have battled against each other.

Begining with Alexander the Great’s global conquest, continuing with Julius Caesar’s military campaigns, the Spanish Conquestadors in America, the British versus Germans in Second World War, right down to 9/11 terrorist attack in USA—it seems mankind is destined to fight.

However, our faiths do not speak to us so. In fact they do the contrary. “You shall not kill”—thus did God command humans through Moses, and how did mankind act ? with more wars, with more military conquests and more killing than ever before. Man is indeed a sinful mammal.

The Quran also preaches peace. It says “but if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace” (The Quran 8:61)

The of the word “Islam” in Arabic is SALAMA which is the origin of the words Peace & / or submission, a submission to God and peace to all humanity. It is, thus, no wonder why the greeting in Islam is: “Al-Salamu Alaikum” or “Peace be on You.”

In this regard, prophet Mohammad commanded his fellow Muslims to salute others Muslims or non-Muslims with peace when he said: “Peace Before Speech”

The Vedas of Hinduism proclaim Ahimsa or Non-violence. The Chhandogya Upanishad says : Austerity, charity, uprightness, non?violence and truthfulness?these are the gifts for the priests. (CU 3.17.4) However, in practice, man does opposite of what the scriptures preach.

“Ahimsa Paramo dharma”(Non-violence is the greatest religion)—this is the preaching of Jainism. A meesage which is so profound that none can oppose it. To be precise, the world accepts it as truth and gives lip service to it.But usually looks the other way when someone kills someone.

This is the state of the world today. Hypocritical and corrupt.Let us reform it.

Modern man is mean, and hypocritic. In fact, things have come to such a headway, that people have begun to openly support such attitude by declaring them to be “manly”. Meanwhile, the “manly-man” feasts on the exploitation of the poor and the oppressed. Its time to change ourselves to act in peaceful ways.

The change is necessary because otherwise annihilation of civilized society is imminent. Mankind may survive, but as wild animals. Civilization is crumbling–fast. Afghanistan was civilized during 1960’s and 1970’s. Now its a war-zone. Iraq too was a country you could visit before 1980. Now its a battleground. What if your country is next ? It took 800 years to build Rome but was was burnt down by barbarians in just one day– On August 24, 410. It took Six centuries to built up the Nalanda University in Ancient India, but was annihilated within a week by Central asian invaders–in 1193. Therefore, if modern civilization is to survive, changing the mindset of hatred to a mindset of peace is essential.

Stop, look and listen. Don’t tolerate corruption any more—social or political. Let us start a movement of Peace. Let us bring back morality in the world. Stop fighting and led decent moral lives.

The choice is yours. Would you like to sleep peacefully in your own bed at night ?Or would you want to to a refugee who is forced by civil war to flee from his own country? Let us start this movement today. Look in the mirror. What do you see? A hypocrite ? Or a Mother-Teresa ? Be a Mother-Teresa. Stop being a hypocrite.

What is considered good art and by whose standards?

orchidmg asked:

I am doing a study of Faith and Reason written by Pope John Paul II. Tonight we were talking about objectivity and subjectivity. Art was the example used to discuss one’s own perception of good art and bad art and the universal perception of it. I am confused by the subject of art. I personally think good and bad art is subject to one’s own personal opinion.

Can anyone explain to me what is ‘good art’? Like Michelango, Picaso Van Gogh versus modern art? And by whose standards is ‘good art’ classified as such?

I’ve never taken an art class, I only draw privately once in a while but I don’t consider myself an artist. What books or websites can I go to to learn about art?
